    Valve’s official press release follows:

    “The Passing” Brings L4D1 Survivors Down South

    December 14, 2009 – Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the first game add-on for its co-operative zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2), is in development and targeted for release in early 2010.

    Dubbed “The Passing,” the first game add-on for L4D2 brings the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay for the PC and Xbox 360.

    Targeted for release in early spring, “The Passing” takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters.

    In addition to the new co-operative campaign and associated narrative, “The Passing” will include new arenas for Survival, Versus and Scavenge mode and introduce a new co-operative challenge mode of play. The Passing will also include a new “uncommon common” zombie class, melee weapon, and firearm.

    “The Passing will become the most important campaign in the Left 4 Dead story, as all the Survivors are being called together in one campaign,” said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. “It will also be a huge offering of new gameplay content, with something new for every game mode plus a new uncommon common and weaponry.”

    Exclusively available for the Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 sets a new benchmark for co-operative action games. The title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaws, frying pans, axes, baseball bats, and more.

    With the AI Director 2.0, L4D’s dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players’ performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

    Finally, with new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original, featuring more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, new Survival maps, and the new competitive game mode, Scavenge.

    Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing is targeted for release in early spring for the PC and Xbox 360. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

    PAX: L4D2 Dark Carnival Footage

    Thursday, September 10th, 2009

    Valve showed off one of L4D2’s campaigns, Dark Carnival, at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) last weekend.

    L4D2 Dark Carnival

    Several the new assets and features since L4D1 are shown, including the Charger’s attack. We also get to see how terrifyingly effective the Jockey’s attack, which gives him some movement control over a Survivor’s character, can be.

    I know the Spitter was added for balance reasons, to help prevent Shiva stacking, but it is hard to tell from footage if it will be useful and fun to play in Versus outside of that very limited role. I also noticed in the second video the Spitter model is completely different than the frightening female model previously shown. I’m not sure if this means there are multiple models available, or if it has been changed.

    Fort Zombies

    Friday, September 4th, 2009

    This sounds like a pretty cool game,  more geared towards those zombie lovers who like to find somewhere to hold out from the zombies. Here’s a description I found of the game.  Seems as if the zombie community is getting really lucky these days with zombie games :) .

    The undead will walk the Earth this fall, as Paradox Interactive today kicked off PAX 2009 with the unveiling of Fort Zombie. Tackle hordes of zombies in this lite action/RPG title that will be available through all major digital distribution channels.

    In Fort Zombie, players will find themselves trapped in the small town of Piety, Indiana. Faced with no other choice but to find shelter from an impending wave of zombies migrating from a nearby metropolis, players will be challenged to choose a building to be their fort throughout the entire campaign. By effectively focusing efforts on building up this structure in between scouring the town for supplies and searching out and training survivors, players will have a shot at surviving the massive zombie onslaught.

    For the few remaining citizens of Piety, each new day brings more fear. Only the most prepared citizens of Piety will stand a chance against the zombie infestation. Choose from a variety of daily tasks and efficiently build up your character’s stats and skills as you battle blood-thirsty invaders and attempt to avoid total infestation. Most importantly, you must build up your fort for anyone to have any hope of surviving the last, big stand-off against the coming undead swarm.

    This fall, stay alive and be prepared for the fight of your life in Fort Zombie!

    Zombie Tycoon for the PSPGo

    Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

    144926-ZombieTycoonFor those avoiding the stock market in this recession, apply your managerial skills to amassing live brains rather than cold, hard cash. In Zombie Tycoon, living dead video game aficionados will encounter a completely new set of challenges in their roll as zombie overlord—responsible for the overall strategy of attack and the well-being of their troops in the attempt to spread the undead across the globe. Along with the fast-paced action found in games where players control more self-serving zombies, Frima Studios has added humorous strategies and managerial challenges into the game play for a new take on a classic genre.

    After discovering a formula capable of reviving dead flesh, an eminent scientist created the first zombie of this world. As this briliant scientists corporate master you obviously ransacked the laboratory and assimilating your employees into an undead horde. Now it’s just a simple task of absolute and utter world domination. All that stands in your way are some pesky cities filled with fresh humans to add to your army. The tenacity of mankind will indeed be a major obstacle but it is your task to ensure that the human plight remains… eternal.

    Zombie Tycoon is the thinking man’s zombie game,” commented Frima’s CEO Steve Couture. “It is about time for humans to try to understand what it feels like to be a zombie. By putting a humorous zombie army in the player’s control and by having funny items to arm those zombies with, we hope to show the lighter side of the classic zombie genre and the subtleness of zombies’ personality…”

    Key Features:

    * Control up to three different hilarious zombie hordes;
    * Uncover an intriguing story through several animated cut-scenes and in-game dialogues;
    * Play through 10 levels and solve puzzles in order to infest every part of the map and achieve world domination;
    * Choose from more than 100 funny items, armors and weapons to equip your zombies.
    * Burn cities to the ground, thanks to a unique combat system allowing to attack humans and destroy buildings;

    Frima Studios Zombie Tycoon will be available exclusively as a download through “The Minis” on Sony’s new Playstation Store.

    L4D2 Interview and Video Preview

    Friday, August 14th, 2009

    Gametrailers TV has an interview with Gabe Newell and Chet Falizek about Left4Dead 2, along with some video of the newly announced fairgrounds campaign.

    One goal of the new game is to tell a contiguous story, unlike L4D in which the connection between campaigns wasn’t always apparent.

    There is gameplay footage of two of the new Special Infected, the Charger and Spitter. Chet details some of the new weapons, including the katana, axe and grenade launcher.

    They finish up the interview discussing Crash Course, the upcoming DLC campaign for the original L4D. It’s focus is being a versus campaign that can be completed in 30 minutes, but it still includes co-op and survival mode. Its narrative is set in the period between the No Mercy and Death Toll campaigns.

    I’d recommend watching it in Hi-def from the GameTrailers site.

    L4D/L4D2 comparison

    Monday, July 27th, 2009

    IGN has made a great comparison for Left4Dead and Left4Dead 2. Although like most I’m not happy having to most likely shell out another 50 bucks, it looks like Valve is really pushing to add a lot to this one to make it worth our while. One thing that stood out to me was the wandering witch.. thats going to be crazy.

    Ghosts N Zombies

    Monday, July 27th, 2009

    This is a game for the Colecovision… yes that old system from 1982 (year I was born). This is actually a homebrew game that you will be able to purchase for $60. The game features 17 screens, and 11 different enemy types! I think this is awesome. Its good to see people pushing their creative boundaries, even on a 27 year old system. Bet you wish you didn’t throw that old Colecovision out dont you. Just goes to show zombies always come back.. no matter how long it takes!
