Default The importance of knowing how to fight.

Also I share a story in all this so bare with the length.

I go into great detail and my methods and what I've learned, but lately I've been back out in my old workout regiment, back in the day when me and my friends use to bare knuckle box, we use to punch trees to condition our fists, later I discovered this is an old martial arts technique we didn't invent anything new, but I have gone back to doing that, surprisingly my fists are still pretty conditioned "I won alot of fights too, Also lost a few," however I think people should work on hand to hand techniques I do believe it is a very valuable asset, especially things like jujitsu.

I've studied many fighting styles from around the world, through books and have also received instruction in martial arts mainly kickboxing. So also learning streets fighting, watching gypsies bare knuckle underground fights, and irish bare knuckle boxing, I got into MMA later and then everything changed and all I knew got mixed in, now I am a peaceful guy, I don't wanna hurt anyone needlessly, things can be talked out and I do believe force should be resorted to last unless obviously its an open force situation, I have had my fair share of brawls in life too, so I have really seen the value of not needing a weapon because you are the weapon

"Don't get me wrong, I love my guns and other various weapons all the same, I respect them and I understand the power that can be delivered with them." I have never once raised one in anger, but I have blasted things out with my dukes and feet, I got a scar on my chest from a guy that stuck a knock off Kabar in my chest but I snapped his wrist, that night in a matter of three minutes I had three assailants down I was pretty beat up but I was standing they were crawling. So in any situation especially if your on foot like I use to be 90 percent of the time walking to and from work 3 miles each way and mainly at night at night where I use to have to walk through lead me through bad areas.

no lights save a couple houses, now keep in mind that night I was packing my kimber 45 subcompact and didn't pull it on any of those people for the simple fact they didn't have a gun, just a knife, I had a knife but I didn't pull it, first off let me get into the mistake my first assailant who initiated the confrontation he had the knife but I stood my ground and calmly answered "Your fucking joking me right" I had a cigarette in my mouth, guy was like "yo lemme get your cigarettes, your walet yah phone"

First mistake-Not an obvious threat right now, just a dick with a knife who thinks he is tough...he is also standing 15 feet away, I was just outside a neighborhood with woods and it was 4:30 am "I worked late nights" so in my mind I am not even gonna pull my gun because at this point I am only seeing a knife and he is at a distance so obviously I had the advantage. My gun is my last resort, and at this point it was just him...

He started walking closer still waving the knife around "not showing real intent holding it very sloppy his hands were shaking most likely strung out on roxies or something" So I still have my cigarette the distance is closing and now two guys come from the woods behind him and are moving up with him..."fuck"

My big dilema was I have fought multiple opponents before and my friends and I use to practice with wooden swords and knives on a daily basis, the two other guys didn't have anything just them selves, one guy was trying to look all gangster but he just really looked like a joke, and the other guys pants were damn near round his ankles, so obviously these guys are just sad jokes to me, not even worth the bullet...so as bad as it sounds...after not fighting for years...and a full moon out, the warrior in me wanted out and these stains if they didn't back off were gonna get the brunt of it. I figured if anything I would do these punks a favor by doing something they most likely never had done to them, a good old fashion ass whooping.

My wish was granted as the guy with knife came running in first,I flipped my cigarette in his face, I kicked him in the gut and he was throwing up on his knees, dropped the knife the other two guys bum rushed me and were working me pretty good, I got an opening and head butted the guy on my right in the nose and he dropped, the other guy jacked my jaw but it really didn't bother me after all the hits I took when I was younger.

he paid in full when I threw a straight jab into his face and throw a solid kick to the side of his knee and caught him with a right cross as he tumbled, the first guy is up and he has that knife and I start walking towards him and he charged me I threw my arm up and jacked his jaw and he tried with the knife but I had his hand, thats when his wrist went snap...opps...

he dropped that damn knife, then the other guy whose nose I broke plowed me in the back of the head and I got all disoriented and stupid, thats when that little prick stabbed me, as soon as I felt that knife hit my chest, the game was over it was real now, at this point its been about 2 minutes...I didn't kill them nor did I pull my gun or use that knife on them, but the two guys that were standing weren't standing by the 3 minute mark, and the other guy got up and tried to have one more wack at me, I just kicked him straight in the face and watched him drop like a bag of shit.

So the lesson is, yes if I would have used my gun, none of that would have happened, but I really didn't wanna open fire and kill anyone, I didn't think they deserved that, they just needed to learn that just because you think your the predator...doesn't mean you really are...after that night I knew that I had to be more serious with my MMA the whole event has changed me, I think I saved lives, fast forward two weeks later, I am walking home after working the early morning shift those same three clowns actually were walking down the street and they looked like shit still, I kinda felt bad the one guys eye was still blood red, and two of them had broken noses, and mr slice and dice had a cast on, and the guy I kicked in the side of the leg was limping. Would you believe they actually crossed the street to get away from me...

When you fear the unknown it is simply a matter of facing that fear and making it known.
Keep in mind, I had done MMA before this, and they checked my foot pounds of force behind my punches and my kicks, from a hay maker punch I can deliever anywhere from 110 to 480, 110 is just me throwing it without putting my body into it, my kicks are really insane because I use to swim and run and also weight train, try running with 40 pound sand bag weights tied to each leg, and do that with your arms to while at school and trying to write and walk around, I use to swim and hold my breath under the water and practice with those weights on "don't try that on your own, I was just dumb enough and testosterone fueled enough to do it lol"

Anyhow a straight kick from me registers at 900 pounds of force at my full contact strength, me throwing a quick defensive kick or something more towards pushing an opponent away was coming out at about 300 to 700 pounds, my knees are roughly on par with my kicks and my elbows are on par with my fists, my head I don't know because they discouraged us from head butting, actually punishment for a headbutt was having to do pull ups and get hit on the sides with the wooden kendo stick for the duration of 150 pulls ups, doing this once in a day sucked enough but when sensei got pissed of or you were a smart ass, twice was murder. My point is that if you become the weapon, you can get out of situations like that, or at the same time if your like me...stand your ground, they wanna fight you give them a damn fight.

Wing Chun kung fu is what bruce studied in his early years. Jeet Kune Do is the martial art he founded.

Yeah, Wang Chung was a ridiculously popular dance band (no idea why) in the 80's. Made me chuckle when I imagined Bruce sparring along to them. I'd link to the song "Dance hall days", but I never liked it so...
