    Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

redd Check out the new character coming to Nation Red. Im guessing (hoping that is) that this will be put into the upcoming patch. Glad to see the developers really taking what players have been saying and implementing those ideas.

Our Nation Red giveaway is still going on for 3 more days dont forget to make an account and 2 posts on the forums to be entered.

Nation Red New Character Model and more!

    Sunday, September 6th, 2009

Hey everyone I had the opportunity to talk with Susan from Nation Red. The email discussion is posted below with her permission but I wanted to highlight a few of the cool things she has mentioned.

    • As we speak a new character model is in development
    • There is a patch soon to be released that will address some balancing issues, and make the game scale better the longer you live on free play.
    • If the game sales do well enough a FREE coop patch will be available.
    • Sounds like it will be possible to do some custom levels for the game as well :)

Here is the correspondence I had with Susan from diezelpower.com

    Hello Jason,

Great to hear from you – I was actually checking out your site yesterday, nice to see people liking the game!
Level editing: yes, we are already working on this. It will depend though on if you want to edit existing levels or if you want to create your own new 3D (for example modeling a new level in 3D Studio Max). Most of this is possible to add quite quickly, so you could be in luck there.

In the meantime, our programmers are working on an update for the game coming out this week which includes a rewrite of the Free Play game mode (skill level will ramp up nicely, fight multiple bosses at the same time and more), gameplay adjustments and more.

Following that if the game does well, we would add multiplayer coop, something many people told us they’d like to see. (This will all be released as a free Steam update or if you bought a copy from our site of course.)
Let me know regarding the level editing what you’d like, and we’ll see what we can do!
    Best regards,

    Susan

    My Response

    Hey Susan,
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my email. As far as level editing goes I would be perfectly happy creating new levels, the civilian protection level was a challenging one so I would be interested in making some more involving that type of game play. It would also be great to create some levels with different scenery, City levels, levels in a field with trees/bushes/ect, maybe even some wintery levels. I know a few members of the Undeadgames community who would love to make some levels for it as well we have a pretty decent sized modding community. I don’t know if you were insinuating that you would allow me to create new levels or if you just wanted ideas, but I am open to either option. I do have 3DS max available it’s a slightly older copy but still should be able to export in the proper formats, and I and a few of our members have modeling experience. So if it just required some command line tools or an exporter that would be fine.

Thanks again for your time, and thank you for getting back with me, if its ok with you I’d like to post this on Undeadgames.com (without your contact email address) as I know the community would be really excited to see that you actually responded, and the changes headed for the game.

    Thanks,
    Jason

2nd Email I received with some possibly great news :)

    Hello Jason,

Yes of course you can post my messages to you on the site.
Regarding the level modding; That sounds great; we can either release them on your website, or the Nation Red website (we’ll make a special section) or perhaps on Steam.

If your users have modeling experience, they should be able to make levels pretty easily. The only small thing to keep in mind is that although it is tempting to put all kinds of objects inside the levels, it will detract from the freedom you have. Walls, cars, etc. in the middle of the levels will impact your ability to move around, some people may prefer a more open arena. But let’s see what we can do. I will need to check with the programmers how exactly the levels should be made, what format, etc.

BTW, saw today that a new player character is being designed, so look forward to being able to choose your zombie killing character as well (in preparation to coop)!
    Kind regards,
    Susan

This is potentially exciting for Undeadgames, and Nation Red. The ability to make custom maps alone would be fantastic and would greatly increase the replayability. Imagine making some of your favorites the Mall lobby from Dawn of the Dead, the bunker exterior from Day of the Dead, or zombies coming at you in an open cornfield where they are harder to see. Imagine objective based maps, defend point A for 10 minutes while the civilians escape, get to the generator to power up the turrets, ect. If I know the map makers and modders here you could come up with all sorts of great things.  Anyway was just very excited over this and wanted to post it for everyone.
