If you’ve paid attention to Undeadgames for the past couple of months I have been trying to pump Fort Zombie up. They even gave us exculsive screenshots of the game to post here. But what has happened after release has me appaled and has made me think twice about buying any game with the Kerberos name on it (Although Cataclysm’s still alright).
I bought the game and had a ridiculous number of problems. In fact I havent played it since the first day because it was so bad. Apparently MANY people if not all have had horrible issues with the game since release you can see that on their forums here. Many people have posted legitimate issues and have had very rude remarks back from the developer such as
This time we put in the fancy lighting and shadows and suddenly we are system requirement nazis…”
I have more examples with screenshots of course but theres no use in going through them all, just visit the forums and you can see for yourself.
Here are the facts
The game is horribly laggy on most systems, and many of those running top of the line hardware, Im in fact running a 4870 and the performance is horrible.
The AI is the worst I’ve seen in any “commercial game” comes close to Paintbrawler.
The zombies look absolutely terrible.
I was holding back because I thought the game had “potential” but honestly I don’t pay for potential. I don’t buy a bunch of flower when I want a sandwich because it has the “potential” to become bread. I want what I pay for and this certainly is not worth $10. Many IPhone apps are better than this and sell for less.
Apparently the devs think zombie fans are fools and are willing to just blow $10 and get a very subpar incomplete bug fest. I for one will not be buying from Kerberos ever again, more so for the unprofessional comments I have seen on their forums. I am looking forward to seeing the major sites and magazines agree with the users about how bad this game really is.
Bottom line save your money.

They've been mighty quick to take down those threads or something because your links are dead. (at least 2 of em)
Loktar, I 110% agree!
Ok, we are not all game developers and even the best modders out of all of us couldn't produce a complete game but if this is what was going to be made, I wouldn't have bothered anyway.
There is no heart and soul whatsoever in the making of this game. The character is as bland and useless as any character I have ever played in any game and the complete fighting system is really boring.
I have been playing games since the early zx spectrum and Atari days and in my honest opinion, this is THE worst game I have ever played, for the fact that it has no soul and this goes beyond the bugs and issues etc.
I think the dev's just wanted to jump on the zombie band wagon and get something out quick to the fans of the genre but believe me, you are going to be very, very disappointed if you buy this, expecting a zombie apocalyptic style game with action all the way or at least some of the way.
I really would love to be proven wrong at some point and find that this game is a gem in the making but at the moment, I cannot find one single redeeming quality to this title.
And for the fact that the dev's are trying to convince buyers that they will have to buy new video cards and motherboards, even though their exsisting system can run Crysis on full whack, is beyond a joke!
Take the above advice and please for the love of gaming, avoid this title at all costs. Even though it is a small price of $10, save your money and buy Red Nation or save it up for L4D2 at least.
I've watched a video of that game on youtube, and for some reason the colors and modelling reminded me of the game free ski. lol.
What a bunch of tools... I've been in game and product r&d, production, marketing and sales for over 16 years and these guys don't know jack from sh$t about development or customer service obviously... One way to lose their entire market in one swoop with bad service on top of a crap product. Way to go and they give Kerberos a bad name.
All I know is, that from the get go I didn't perceive this game well. What I did perceive well was the L4D2 demo I downloaded and am playing at 40 fps on my old ass 9800 pro system, take that ten dollars towards this piece of crap and lay on L4D2.
Yeah I think Valve made up for all the broken promises with L4D1, with all the new life that has been added with L4D2.
ALSO I played nation RED that would also be money well spent!
ohh loktar its a shame nobody tried to warn you 10 minutes before buying this after he bought it and told you all of the problems that he had with it.
haha yeah I know. I had to see for myself though
did you not believe me?
Things run differently on different computers, if I believed everyone with an issue with a game Id have none to play
same goes for review sites. Im still hoping most issues are fixed eventually and I can enjoy the game.
!!!!

EDIT: To the people who have the GamersGate version and are reinstalling the game but it still says the version is Fort Zombie 1.0.2...
1. Uninstall the game.
2. If you have a folder called "GamersGate Temporary Files" delete that or else the game won't update to version 1.0.3
3. Reinstall, yay.
I'll wait for another update or two before retrying the game. Hopefully this patch will be one from many.
That's a rather large number of updates for a game that has barely been released a month. It begs the question - how did they release such a bug ridden game and all of sudden become so fast at fixing stuff?
It seems to me that they had always invisioned releasing FZ on October 31st regardless of what bugs and issues it shipped with. I'd guess that most of these fixes were either in the works when they shipped the game, or at the very least they were fully aware of the problems and knew which fixes needed to be be squeezed out first.
An asshole's guide to making money...
Step 1. Plan and build a game for release on a certain date.
Step 2. Stick to the original release date no matter what, even if product doesn't work.
Step 3. Knowingly release a broken product on said date.
step 4. Sell broken product and annoy all your customers.
Step 5. Laugh all the way to the bank.
Step 6. Fix broken product (Optional).
This method work well for the larger software companies so I guess we shouldn't be too surprised when smaller companies try it.
My suspicion is actually more dismal. Maybe the fix is no better quality than the game and half the things on that list are either not fixed at all or even worse than the original.
I find it extremely unlikely that they could turn out a game with such obvious bugs and then all of a sudden become competent game programmers and testers a month later. I don't buy that they were in bug-fix mode prior to releasing the original because given what they released I'd wager they were slamming in code till the last second.
It's all just very fishy to me.

The devs don't baby their customers like many devs do. I'm sure it can be annoying if you're on the receiving end of it, but in a way I kind of like their open honest reactions to people. Treat them with some respect and its no problem.
Dev comments aside, bugs aside, FZ is probably one of the best zombie games ever produced.
Its one of the first real zombie games. What I mean by that is that most zombie games are just a rehashed game concept with zombie art thrown in. You could take a game like L4D and swap out the zombies with aliens or any other fantasy creature and it would suit the gameplay just fine. Not so with Fort Zombie.
The big difference is that FZ is much more focused on the RPG and survival aspects of the zombie armageddon rather than simply shooting moar zombies.
I think a lot of people that start FZ (once they get past the technical issues) sort of expect it to play like a traditional shooter game. Its not. Its a RPG. Your character is going to be horrible starting out. Later in the game, after you've developed your character, then you can really kick some zombie but.
This may be their open honest reactions - but it's also being a douche.
They've been cool to me. I just started posting on their forum a few days ago and they are VERY active and chat about whatever. I even got some good zombie book recommendations from them.
After playing Zombie Shooter 2 tonight I was reminded about what makes Fort Zombie a good game. Zombie Shooter 2 was mindless and half assed compared to FZ.
So the crashes are a bit annoying right now. I'll agree with that for sure, but the game is perfectly playable. Its also something I know the devs will fix soon. Their other game Sword of the Stars was in the same boat at release and now its the best 4X space game available.
So have some patience and don't expect them to be saints. This is a site dedicated to undead games, not the kind of place I would expect to find sensitive people.
If you buy something from a store that doesn't work as advertised and you make a complaint about it to the store that sold it to you and the guy behind the counter essentially tells you to piss off and stop complaining then that is being a douch. More precisely it's bad customer service. That probably annoyed more people than the bad game they were complaining about to begin with and it's not the way a company should react to complaint. It's not likely to put them in the customers 'good books' now is it?
Listening to your customers = good. Telling your customers to GFYS (as I understand it that means go fuck yourself) = douche/bad customer service.

(off topic: notice I got a friday the 13th reg date! booyaa)
Within 30 minutes I got responses from three Kerberos employees. They were not only chatty, but quick to respond, helpful, and nice. I guess what I am saying is that I'll make my own decision about whether or not they are douches. I'm sure I've said some pretty terrible things to someone on some forums at one point or another. I'm not going to hold it against them for being human. I don't use different standards for others than I would for myself.
Its no doubt a buggy game that was released to early. I acknowledged as much here. But I'm still not concerned about them getting snippy with someone on their own forums that may as well have deserved it for all I know.
You seem to have got a much better response from the devs than Foxx and many others did, but then again you weren't complaning about the game in that post. You were talking about zombies in general, something that both you and them have an affinity with and can agree on, same as we all do here. Foxx and the others made posts outlining the issues with the game and got a very hostile reply. I haven't seen any complaint posts recently because I haven't looked but I do hope the complaints that Kerebos gets on their forums are not being meet with as much hostility as they were before.
It works just get it working then go for the pathches most of them reduce lag
lol why name yourself fortzombie? If you disagree thats cool were not goign to hate you. Also its not lies. At release this game was horrible.
Heres some others that agree.

So as you can see we are not the only ones saying this, and we are not lying. Under the surface it could be a great game, but the developers failed miserably.
